Large etchings and engravings
William Caxton Shewing the First Specimen of his
Printing to King Edward the Fourth at the Almonry, Westminster Published in 1858, this plate was engraved by Frederick Bromley, one of the finest engravers of the period. The scene depicts all the aspects of producing a book, from typesetting, through to printing and binding. Included are the wood engravers of the illustrations, the foreunners of copper and steel plate engravers, whose book plates were printed by specialist forms like Thomas Ross. |
