George Morland, hand coloured prints
George Morland (1763 - 1804) was a
painter of portraits, genre and figure subjects. His style is distinctive,
often with a rustic theme. He came from a family of artists and
learnt his trade by being apprenticed to his father. His life was troubled, plagued by
debts, but he was extremely prolific and following
a move to the Isle of Wight towards the end of his life his subjects
became more and more orientated towards fishermen and women.
The
prints illustrated below are all hand printed from original and unique antique intaglio
plates, onto purpose made acid-free paper and then hand coloured by professional
artists. Being printed and coloured exactly as they were 200 years ago
they will greatly outlast modern lithographic prints.
Sizes are height by width in centimetres &
inches for to the plate mark, there will
be further margins outside this area.
